The establishment of grants to students of Gnessin School.
The music evening named “Christmas Gathering” was established by Armenian Assembly in 2018, with the goal of awarding grants in honor of outstanding Armenian musicians — Komitas, Aram Khachaturian, Charles Aznavour and Jivan Gasparyan — to the students of the Gnessin School for their achievements in performing arts.
The first evening dedicated to the establishment of annual educational grants was held on December 19, 2018 in the organ hall of the Gnessin School. Young talents received grants (cash prizes), as well as authored statuettes by the sculptor Michael Aram. Armenian Assembly also awarded grants to the young talents’ teachers.
The grant winners were selected upon the recommendations of Gnessin School Directorate and the jury members, among them being Constantine Orbelyan, Jivan Gasparyan, Stas Namin, Sergey Smbatyan.
The musical evening accompanied by the performances of the winners ended with the grant awarding ceremony. For the success in performing arts, the first winners of the project were:
Karina Harutyunyan (clarinet), winner of the grant after Jivan Gasparyan;
Elen Virabyan (flute), winner of the grant after Charles Aznavour;
Karina Ter-Ghazaryan (piano), winner of the grant after Aram Khachaturian;
David Avetisyan (piano), winner of the grant after Komitas.
